Good afternoon! Welcome to the Student Media Poll Newsletter for December 14, 2021. After a big weekend in college basketball, the polls have shaken up.
Special note: congratulations to all of our voters who graduated or will graduate this month! Thank you for all of your contributions to the SMP in its inaugural season.
THIS WEEK’S POLLS:
🏈 There is no new football poll this week, as the only FBS matchup was Army/Navy. The SMP announced its 2021 Football Award Winners Saturday, which can be seen here. Six awards were selected by SMP voters. Last week's poll is available here.
⛹️♂️🏀 The reigning national champion Baylor Bears are the new No. 1 in men’s basketball following an undefeated start to the season. Rutgers’ Ron Harper Jr. knocked down a buzzer-beater to take Purdue out of the top spot. The Boilers are down to No. 7 this week.
⛹️♀️🏀 South Carolina is still No. 1, and their dominant start has only gotten more impressive. The Gamecocks defeated Maryland Sunday for yet another ranked win. Can the ‘Cocks go undefeated this season?

THIS WEEK AT THE SMP:
-Our first ever Football Awards were revealed Saturday night, capping off our inaugural football regular season.
-New positions within the SMP will be announced later this week. Current voters applied for executive positions within the organization as we continue to expand.
FEATURED STORIES:
🐯 Mizzou and Kansas renewed the long-dormant Border War rivalry Saturday in Lawrence. The last time the teams met in Columbia was chaotic, including iconic dancing and a fake coach. The SMP’s Anthony Kristensen has the history of a wild night in the rivalry for The Columbia Missourian.
🐘🔴 Alabama won in controversial fashion over Houston in Tuscaloosa Saturday, 83-82. The goaltending no-call was one of the biggest stories in college basketball this weekend, and James Mueller had coverage for The Cougar.
🌪 Iowa State men’s basketball is off to an undefeated start, including a 20-point home win over cross-state rival Iowa. “Hilton Magic” is in the air in Ames, and Matt Belinson has coverage for the Iowa State Daily.
