Good afternoon! Welcome to the Student Media Poll Newsletter for December 21, 2021. College basketball has been shaken up by Covid-19 this week, but some big matchups still took place. Meanwhile, bowl season is underway in college football.
THIS WEEK’S POLLS:
🏈 There is no new football poll this week, but bowl season has officially started. The next football poll will be following the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
⛹️♂️🏀 Baylor is still No. 1 this week, while the two biggest risers in the poll are a pair of SEC Tigers, LSU and Auburn. Several key matchups have been canceled or forfeited due to Covid-19 this week, including Louisville-Kentucky and UCLA-North Carolina.
⛹️♀️🏀 Georgia pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season, knocking off NC State and rising in the poll. No. 1 South Carolina is set to take on No. 2 Stanford tonight in Columbia, the second No. 1 vs No. 2 matchup of the season.

🏔 WKU and record-setting QB Bailey Zappe handed Appalachian State it’s first-ever bowl defeat, 59-38 in the RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl. SMP voter Dan Davidson was in Boca Raton for The Appalachian.
🔶🔷 Illinois men’s basketball set a program record for three-pointers in a win over St. Francis, and the Illini are rolling with Braggin’ Rights against Mizzou in St. Louis up next. SMP AD of Polling Operations Jackson Janes covered for The Daily Illini.
